Abstract

Gender inequality remains a persistent and multifaceted challenge in India, cutting across geographic, economic, and social boundaries. Despite India’s rapid economic growth, the benefits of development have not been equitably distributed between genders. This research article explores the complex landscape of gender disparity in India, examining the historical transition of women’s status from the Vedic period to the contemporary era. By analyzing various dimensions of empowerment, social, educational, economic, legal, and political, this study identifies the systemic barriers that hinder female progress.

Key issues such as sex-selective abortion, domestic violence, educational disparities, and workplace harassment are discussed in detail. The paper also evaluates the impact of globalization and the necessity of targeted micro-credit and health interventions. Ultimately, the study proposes strategic policy implications aimed at dismantling patriarchal structures and fostering a truly inclusive society.
