Abstract

The exponential rise in single-use plastic pollution has necessitated the exploration of biodegradable alternatives for everyday consumer products. This research-based mini-project investigates the design, material engineering, and user acceptance of an innovative Bamboo Water Bottle. Unlike conventional bamboo flasks that use a plastic inner lining, this project develops a prototype using a honey-beeswax and natural resin coating as a waterproof liner. The study evaluates the bottle’s structural integrity, leakage prevention, thermal retention, and biodegradability. Results indicate that while the bamboo composite bottle has a lower thermal retention capacity (keeps water cool for 4–6 hours) compared to stainless steel, it offers superior biodegradability (90% degradation in 90 days) and zero microplastic shedding. The project concludes that the bamboo water bottle is a viable, low-cost, and scalable innovation for eco-conscious consumers, particularly in off-grid and travel markets.

Keywords: Bamboo composite, sustainable innovation, zero-waste design, natural waterproofing, microplastic alternative.
