Abstract

Acceptance sampling based on truncated life tests plays a vital role in ensuring product quality when complete lifetime testing is not feasible. This paper presents an efficient approach of designing single acceptance life test sampling plans using the Inverted Weibull Distribution (IWD). The underlying life distribution i.e., IWD is best suited for modeling failure data with a monotone decreasing hazard rate, commonly observed in early-life failures. The study addresses both producer’s risk (α) and consumer’s risk (β). Binomial distribution is adopted to construct sampling plans based on the 25th and 50th percentiles (quantile life) under Type-I censoring (time truncation). The paper employs a two-point decision approach to determine the minimum sample size  and acceptance number  required to meet specified risk constraints and within a pre-specified time. Using R 3.6.1, tables are generated for various shape parameters of the IWD, enabling practitioners to select optimal sampling plans under different conditions. A practical demonstration is included using real-world dataset. The methodology enhances decision-making efficiency by reducing inspection costs, making it highly suitable for industrial applications involving early-life failures.
