Abstract

Warehouse automation has become an important component of modern logistics and supply chain management. Warehouses are required to receive, store, control, pick, pack and dispatch goods accurately and quickly. This study examines the role of warehouse automation in improving operational efficiency and reducing human error. The study focuses on technologies such as Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS/RS), Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), Automated Mobile Robots (AMRs), barcode systems, RFID, conveyors and automated sorting.

A descriptive research approach was used, and data were collected from 50 respondents connected with warehouse and related operations. The study examines awareness and use of automation technologies, inventory management, manual labour, human error, workplace safety, inventory accuracy, productivity, supply chain performance, implementation cost, employee training and order-processing speed.

The findings show that 70% of respondents are familiar with warehouse automation and 58% reported that their organizations use automation technologies. The strongest positive result relates to workplace safety, with 84% agreeing that automation improves safety. Automation was also positively associated with the reduction of manual labour. However, perceptions relating to inventory accuracy, productivity, supply chain performance and order-processing speed were mixed. Implementation cost and employee training were identified as major concerns. The study concludes that automation can improve warehouse operations when supported by proper training, maintenance, system integration, cybersecurity and continuous performance monitoring.

Keywords: Warehouse Automation, WMS, Operational Efficiency, Inventory Accuracy, Human Error, RFID and Supply Chain Performance.
