Abstract

Mathematics has long been regarded as the language through which scientific phenomena are understood, interpreted, and applied to solve real-world problems. Throughout history, mathematicians have contributed significantly to technological advancement by developing theories, models, and computational techniques that support progress in engineering, medicine, environmental science, and industrial applications. Among the distinguished academicians who have made notable contributions to the field of mathematics in India is Dr. Nirmala P. Ratchagar, former Dean of the Faculty of Science and retired Professor of Mathematics at Annamalai University. Her career reflects a remarkable blend of academic excellence, research innovation, institutional leadership, and commitment to the advancement of mathematical sciences. Through her extensive research in applied mathematics and mathematical modelling, she has demonstrated how mathematical concepts can be translated into practical solutions for complex scientific and engineering problems. Her scholarly work has inspired researchers and students while strengthening the reputation of Annamalai University as a centre for quality research in mathematics.

Keywords— applied mathematics, biomedical mathematics, fluid mechanics, magnetohydrodynamics, mathematical modelling.
