Abstract

Capital budgeting is a critical financial management process that enables organizations to evaluate and select long-term investment projects that support sustainable business growth. This descriptive study examines the role of capital budgeting in enhancing financial decision-making and ensuring efficient resource allocation. The study is based entirely on secondary data collected from peer-reviewed journals, books, conference proceedings, annual reports, government publications, and reputable online databases. It explores major capital budgeting techniques, including the Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Payback Period, Accounting Rate of Return (ARR), and Profitability Index (PI), along with their contribution to organizational performance and sustainability. The findings indicate that systematic capital budgeting practices improve investment efficiency, minimize financial risk, strengthen competitive advantage, and promote long-term value creation. The study concludes that integrating financial evaluation with sustainability considerations enables organizations to make informed investment decisions that support economic stability and sustainable business development in an increasingly competitive business environment.
