Abstract

But generation capability is no longer necessarily a constraint for integration of energy. That's more an interpretation and a quick response, however, than maths; They are constantly monitoring a number of thousands of devices across the country and understand the impact of the weather, and can also act quickly in case of failures to ensure the reliability of the grid. This article delves into the combined powers of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) to tackle this challenge. It is believed that technology for interconnection of PV plants, wind power, storage, EV charging stations, smart meters and buildings will be IoT and this same technology will serve as the basis for the operationalisation of the AI as a collection of predictive, diagnostic, optimising and controlling techniques. The paper does not so much describe applications one by one; it gives some indications regarding the steps to take in getting raw data, and in making consequential decisions. No longer integration of (renewable) energy is limited by generation capacities; integration of energy is about renewable energy forecasting, predictive maintenance, the operation of microgrids, EV charging coordination, smart-home energy management and much more. But this is more an opinion and a hasty answer than maths. Constantly monitoring thousands of devices throughout the country, knowing how the weather affects them and being able to swiftly respond to ensure the reliability of the grid.
