Abstract
A community-based cross-sectional research design was adopted. A total of 500 widows were selected from the commune panchayats of Karaikal District using an appropriate sampling technique. Data were collected through a structured personal information schedule and the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. Descriptive and inferential statistical techniques were proposed for data analysis. The demographic profile indicates that most respondents belonged to the economically weaker sections, had low educational attainment, and were engaged in informal occupations, particularly construction work.
The findings are expected to provide empirical evidence on the multidimensional challenges faced by widows and offer policy recommendations for improving their physical, psychological, social, and environmental well-being. The study highlights the need for integrated social welfare programmes, livelihood opportunities, psychosocial interventions, and community-based support systems to enhance the quality of life of widows in Puducherry.
