Abstract

The Smart Waste Management System using Internet of Things (IoT) is an innovative solution designed to improve the efficiency of waste collection and monitoring in urban areas. Traditional waste management systems often face challenges such as overflowing bins, inefficient collection routes, and increased operational costs. This project addresses these issues by integrating IoT technology with waste bins to enable real-time monitoring of waste levels. The system utilizes ultrasonic sensors to measure the fill level of garbage bins and a microcontroller such as ESP32 or Arduino to process the collected data. The data is transmitted through Wi-Fi or GSM networks to a cloud platform, where it can be monitored by municipal authorities through a web or mobile application. When the waste level exceeds a predefined threshold, the system automatically generates alerts, enabling timely waste collection and preventing overflow.

Additionally, the proposed system helps optimize collection routes, reduce fuel consumption, minimize environmental pollution, and improve cleanliness in smart cities. The implementation of IoT-based waste management contributes to sustainable urban development by enhancing resource utilization and reducing manual monitoring efforts.

The Smart Waste Management System offers a cost-effective, scalable, and intelligent approach to modern waste management, ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment for citizens.
