Abstract

This study examines the implementation of a Warehouse Management System (WMS) within Container Freight Station (CFS) operations, with a specific focus on a leading Container Freight Station (CFS) operator in Chennai. Using a structured survey instrument distributed to 60 CFS employees across multiple departments, the research analyses the impact of WMS on technology adoption, process efficiency, regulatory compliance, cost reduction, and overall operational performance. Statistical tools including One-Way ANOVA and Chi-Square tests were applied to test six hypotheses. Findings reveal that WMS implementation has produced uniformly positive outcomes across all designations, experience levels, and departments, with no statistically significant inter-group differences. The study concludes that WMS is a critical enabler of operational excellence in CFS environments, streamlining customs documentation, improving cargo handling speed, reducing manual errors, and enhancing customer satisfaction. The paper further identifies training adequacy and regulatory update agility as areas requiring improvement, and provides actionable recommendations for logistics practitioners and policymakers.
