Abstract

Travel planning often requires travelers to compare destinations, routes, timings, costs and activities across separate sources. When these decisions are handled independently, an itinerary may include unnecessary travel, overlapping activities or unrealistic schedules. This paper reviews relevant work on intelligent tourism recommender systems, personalized itinerary generation, public-transport data and digital route-planning services to establish the technical basis for Smart Travel Sync. The reviewed sources show that recommendation methods can help travelers select places according to their preferences, structured transit feeds can provide schedule and service information, and routing APIs can support the ordering of multiple stops. However, these capabilities are commonly described as separate functions. Smart Travel Sync is proposed as an integrated travel-planning and coordination system that considers user preferences, budget, available time, activity duration, route information and schedule feasibility in one workflow. The paper outlines the system methodology, proposed framework, functional modules, expected outcomes and practical limitations. Since the current work is presented at the functional-design level, numerical performance claims are reserved for future testing.

Keywords: Smart travel, itinerary planning, travel recommendation, route optimization, schedule synchronization, personalized tourism.
